STAR WARS RESISTANCE, A HIGH-FLYING ANIME-INSPIRED SERIES THAT EXPLORES AN UNCHARTED TIMEFRAME PRIOR TO THE EVENTS OF THE FORCE AWAKENS, ORDERED BY DISNEY CHANNELS

Production has begun on “Star Wars Resistance,” an exciting new animated adventure series about Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. It will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and, thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.

Featuring the high-flying adventure that audiences of all ages have come to expect from Star Wars, “Star Wars Resistance” will feature the beloved droid BB-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters and appearances by fan favorites, including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.

The series was created by renowned Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”); executive-produced by Athena Portillo (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”), Justin Ridge (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”) and Brandon Auman (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”); and art-directed by Amy Beth Christenson (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”).

Benn wondering what’s going to replace Star Wars Rebels now that the four-season tale is over? We got our answer today…what’s different about Star Wars Resistance, and what’s similar?

As many fans anticipated, Disney and Lucasfilm are following up their series set in the original trilogy with a series set in the time period of the new films. Specifically the show takes place shortly before The Force Awakens, with Poe Dameron and BB-8 among the main cast. Captain Phasma has also been mentioned, and both characters will be voiced by their movie actors (Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie). But the main focus will be around Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by General Organa to spy on the First Order.

After a successful premiere on 7Two in Australia, in addition to several Disney Channel networks throughout Africa and Europe, BES Animation has launched a YouTube channel for Kitty Is Not A Cat.  I’ve had my eye on this series for quite a while and even wrote about how I thought it would be something special.  Having had the chance to watch a few episodes, I firmly believe that it is special.  Kitty is a delightfully charming cartoon that stands out from its peers.  Its premise is refreshingly original and its varied cast of colorful and comedic cats is sure to entertain both boys and girls.  The writing is sharp and there are a lot of funny gags, but as the cats strive to be positive role-models for Kitty and help her grow as a human, the show promotes positive behaviors while still being entertaining.  BES Animation currently has ten episodes uploaded onto their YouTube channel, and whether you have kids or not, I strongly recommend that you subscribe to it.  Their YouTube channel can be found here, and the episodes can be watched in most countries.  If you live in Australia, every episode can currently be watched on 7Plus.  I am looking forward to watching more episodes of Kitty Is Not A Cat and I hope to have a review written in short order, but I am confident others will find it as delightful as I have.

Versus its June 18 series launch, “Big City Greens” grew by 10% in Kids 6-11 (319,000 vs. 290,000), 26% in Tweens 9-14 (277,000 vs. 220,000) and 8% with Total Viewers (750,000 vs. 692,000).

Disney Channel’s “Big City Greens” ranked as TV’s #1 telecast in the Wednesday 10:00 a.m. half-hour among Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14, topping Cartoon Network (“The Amazing World of Gumball”/”Teen Titans Go”) and Nickelodeon (“Blaze and the Monster Machines”).

Sofia the First: Forever Royal, a special extended-length finale episode of Disney Junior’s Humanitas and Emmy(R) Award-winning series Sofia the First, will premiere SATURDAY, SEPT. 8 (11:00 a.m.-12:10 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Junior and the DisneyNOW app.

Based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award(R)-winning feature film, Big Hero 6 The Series continues the adventures and friendship of 14-year-old tech genius Hiro, his compassionate, cutting-edge robot Baymax and their friends Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Go Go and Fred as they form the legendary superhero team Big Hero 6 and embark on high-tech adventures as they protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains. Beloved Disney Channel star, popular actress Brenda Song (The Social Network) will return to the channel to play the lead voice role in Amphibia, an animated comedy series premiering this summer on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. In production now, Song plays 13-year-old Anne Boonchuy, an independent and fearless teen who is magically transported to the fantastical world of Amphibia, a rural marshland full of frog-people. The announcement was made today as Song celebrated her birthday at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California.

Song starred as fan-favorite character London Tipton in Disney Channel’s long-running hit series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, its spinoff The Suite Life on Deck and The Suite Life Movie. She has also starred in several other popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior, Stuck in the Suburbs, Get A Clue and The Ultimate Christmas Present.

Disney Channel has ordered a second season of Amphibia, a frog-out-of-water animated comedy series, ahead of its debut on MONDAY, JUNE 17 (10:00-10:30 a.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. Leaping into the fantastical world of Amphibia, the series chronicles the adventures of independent and fearless teen Anne Boonchuy (voiced by Brenda Song) after she is magically transported to a rural marshland full of frog people and meets the excitable young frog Sprig Plantar and his family. Created and executive produced by Annie Award-winner Matt Braly (Gravity Falls), the series is inspired by his heritage, family and childhood trips to Bangkok, Thailand.

In making the announcement, Meredith Roberts, senior vice president, Animation Strategy, Disney Channels, said, “Matt and his team have created an imaginative new world in Amphibia, with multifaceted, relatable lead characters who throughout the series will experience transformational journeys. Disney Junior has ordered a second season of the animated series T.O.T.S. – ahead of the series debut, FRIDAY, JUNE 14 (9:00 A.M. EDT/PDT) – on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. The comedy follows the adventures of best friends Pip and Freddy, a tenacious penguin and a kind-hearted flamingo, who are the only non-stork delivery birds in-training at Tiny Ones Transport Service (T.O.T.S.). Designed for kids age 2-7, T.O.T.S. stories suggest themes of positively interacting with and nurturing others while celebrating each other’s differences. Every episode has an original song and the recurring delivery anthem “Bringing This Baby Home.”

The series voice cast includes Vanessa Williams (ABC’s Ugly Betty) as Captain Beakman, Megan Hilty (Broadway’s Noises Off and Wicked) as K.C. the Koala, Jet Jurgensmeyer (Last Man Standing) as Pip the Penguin and Christian Simon (Disney Channel’s Sydney to the Max) as Freddy the Flamingo.

Each episode features two 11-minute stories that highlight the use of creative thinking, teamwork and problem solving to model for young viewers that there is more than one way to achieve a goal.

The series was created by Travis Braun (Disney Junior’s Vampirina and Disney Channel’s Fast Layne), who also serves as co-executive producer. Vic Cook (Disney Junior’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) is executive producer, Chris Gilligan (Disney Junior’s Goldie & Bear) is co-executive producer and supervising director, and Guy Toubes (The Stinky & Dirty Show) is story editor. Extensions for the series include figures, playsets, plush and role-play items launching this summer. Disney Channel has ordered Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, an original animated series based on Marvel’s hit comic books, from Disney Television Animation. Executive produced by Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland’s Cinema Gypsy Productions (ABC’s black-ish), Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment, and Emmy(R) Award-winner Steve Loter (Disney’s Kim Possible), the series follows the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her ten-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur. After Lunella accidentally brings Devil Dinosaur into present-day New York City via a time vortex, the duo works together to protect the city’s Lower East Side from danger.

The news was announced today by Laurence Fishburne during Disney Television Animation’s panel at Disney’s D23 Expo. Fishburne said, “As an avid comic book fan, I am thrilled to be involved with Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Disney Channel is the perfect platform to explore this pint-sized female African American superhero and I can’t wait for their audience to enjoy the lighthearted adventures of Lunella and Devil Dinosaur.”

‘Broken Karaoke,’ A New Animated Short-Form Series Spotlighting Favorite Disney Channel Characters, Launches Today and Features Tilly Green
From ‘Big City Greens’ in Debut Episode

Season two of the hit animated comedy-adventure series Big City Greens premieres SATURDAY, NOV. 16 (9:30 a.m. EST/PST), on Disney Channel and in DisneyNOW. Created and executive produced by brothers Chris and Shane Houghton (Harvey Beaks), the series follows mischievous and optimistic 10-year-old Cricket Green who moves from the country to the big city with his wildly out of place family—older sister Tilly, father Bill and Gramma Alice. Big City Greens ranks among the top five animated series across all Cable with Kids and Girls 6-11.

Prior to the series’ season two debut, the Houghton brothers will participate in a Disney Television Animation showrunner panel at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, Oct. 5 (4:15-5:15 pm EDT).

Guest stars for season two include NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns, Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Jonathan Van Ness (Queer Eye), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Lucy Lawless (Xena the Warrior Princess), Jim O’Heir (Parks and Recreation), Ed Begley Jr. (Arrested Development), Cheri Oteri (Saturday Night Live), Candace Kozak (Disney Channel’s Just Roll With It), Jason Maybaum (Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home) and YouTube sensation SungWon Cho. The second season includes a holiday musical featuring seven original songs and a video game-themed episode with CG animation.

Today, Broken Karaoke, a new animated short-form series that spotlights favorite Disney Channel characters singing parodies of popular songs, launches on Disney Channel YouTube. The first short, “Queen of Nice,” features Tilly Green singing a parody of viral sensation “Queen of Mean” from the global hit Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants 3.

In addition, new Random Rings shorts, featuring Cricket and Tilly Green calling unsuspecting real-world people, continue to roll out every Sunday through Oct. 27 on Disney Channel and Disney Channel YouTube.

Big City Greens stars Chris Houghton as Cricket Green, Artemis Pebdani (Scandal) as sweet Gramma Alice, Marieve Herington (How I Met Your Mother) as quirky older sister Tilly Green and Bob Joles (Puss in Boots) as hard-working father Bill Green. The creative team includes Monica Ray (Harvey Beaks) and Natasha Kline (South Park) as directors and Joachim Horsley (Spirit Riding Free) as composer. Big City Greens is a production of Disney Television Animation and carries a TV-Y7 parental guideline.
