It’s been quite a duck-blur, but not even Scrooge can find a way around the three-season limit at Disney Channel, and thus the new DuckTales will be ending early next week. But it’s going out with a bang in the form of a triple-length episode, “The Last Adventure!” In the end 75 episodes of the new DuckTales were made, which is 3/4 of the length of the original 1987 series. Not bad.
Frank Angones and Matt Youngberg, the ones in charge, sat down for an interview with IGN where they revealed their thoughts about the end of the series and what to expect from those last moments (Angones claims that everybody will die in the last episode).
“I think the majority of people who love our series and have been watching from the beginning are going to feel satisfied [by the finale],” Angones said. “And it’s just like we’ve been doing throughout the whole series, is if we’re making something that is satisfying to us as fans, then other people will be satisfied as well.”
Each season has followed its own overall arc, whether it’s the resurrection of Magica DeSpell (Season One) or rescuing Donald’s sister Della from the moon (Season Two). This season Scrooge and the nephews are up against FOWL, the Fiendish Organization for World Larceny that Darkwing Duck had to face instead of Scrooge back in the 90s (of course, Darkwing is part of the team now, so they should know what to do).
Angones goes on to say he has faith that the end of this series doesn’t mean the end of DuckTales itself. It was cancelled once, after all, and he expects some future series 30 years from now to be cancelled in the future, because there’s just no end to the adventures the McDuck clan can get into. If Scrooge is so old that he lived through the Gold Rush, what could stop him now?
For die-hards, there will be a LITTLE MORE of the current reboot after it ends…in the form of a podcast. “This Duckburg Life” will “highlight riveting stories from Duckburg” using the main cast from the show, including Danny Pudi as Huey, Ben Schwartz as Dewey, Bobby Moynihan as Louie, David Tennant as Scrooge and pretty much everyone else except Lin-Manuel Miranda (Fenton/Gizmoduck), who couldn’t find time in his schedule. The first episode of “This Duckburg Life” premieres March 29 on YouTube and the DisneyNOW app.
