Disney’s animation department has been working on a new version of the classic Ducktales TV show for about two years now, and it’s almost ready to broadcast. A minute-and-a-half-long trailer was released today. It’s supposed to air during the Tangled: The Series premiere, but thanks to the miracle of Internet video, you can watch it now.
One thing you need to understand before you watch this: this isn’t the original show. 1987 was a long time ago and nobody makes 1987-style cartoons anymore. From the minute and a half we get, it feels more like Gravity Falls if there were three Dippers and they were all birds. Perhaps the most controversial thing about this is that Huey, Dewey and Louie don’t sound duck-like enough….they are halfway between their original voices and their “radical” revamped voices from “Quack Pack.”
David Tennant as Scrooge, however? Freakin’ awesome.
Unfortunately, I’m expecting a crowd that will reject this immediately and start making “Why The New DuckTales Is The Worst Cartoon Of All Time” videos on YouTube. There’s been a lot of that going around. If you’re open-minded, however, start watching.
Disney is out there making DuckTales, and they’re not going to stop: the show was renewed for a second season today. It premieres this summer; exact airdate TBD.
